The firm's practice serves an international clientele, including major corporations, law firms, businesses and individuals, in all fields of intellectual property.  The firm’s attorneys are each registered patent attorneys, with expertise in a broad range of technologies, including electrical and electronics, communications, networking, chemical, mechanical, medical, biotech, computer and Internet. More importantly, the firm’s attorneys strive to independently gain relevant expertise, to become expert in the issues presented by the client. We also maintain legal expertise by continually reviewing case law and legislative developments, and through involvement with bar associations and professional organizations.  This expertise results in a high level of interaction with the client, quality work product, controlled fees, and reduced communication burden.

Typical matters in which the firm is retained include preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications; patent and trademark opinions (validity, freedom to operate); negotiations, agreements and licenses; litigation; employment matters involving intellectual property, confidentiality and non-competition issues; matters involving computer technology, software and database protection; and structuring and representation of entrepreneurial technology-based enterprises.

We assist clients in formulating and implementing complex intellectual property strategies, licensing and monetizing intellectual property assets, developing, maintaining and asserting strategic intellectual property portfolios, and defending against claims of of intellectual property infringement.  We generally do not serve as principal litigation counsel, but do provide support for other firms by providing our expertise on a co-counsel basis.  We also are available to render a variety of opinions regarding intellectual property validity, infringement, valuation, ownership, freedom to operate, and various due diligence matters. In addition to our expertise as intellectual property attorneys, we have extensive technological background in a broad range of fields.  We handle all arts, including electrical and electronics, communications and networking, mechanical, chemical, pharmaceutical and biotech, software and Internet, business methods, and design patents.

We seek to provide significant added value in the protection of intellectual property by catalyzing the creative process, while bringing to bear our broad range of technical expertise to explore and encompass the boundaries of an invention.  Often, this process allows a patent application to anticipate later development projects, providing broad and early patent coverage to protect investment and growing market opportunities.  We strive to obtain the broadest scope of protection afforded by existing law, while anticipating legal trends over the life of a patent, and preserving options, which are especially important in view of continuing legislative changes and court decisions.  International protection of global markets is critical, however, the trend toward harmonization of patent laws is incomplete.  We therefore seek to differentiate the patent application process according to the intricacies of national laws, in order to obtain the best scope of protection in a cost-effective manner.

While we seek to represent our clients' interests, both in private and public forums, we also enunciate our own beliefs, which may or may not coincide with those of each, or indeed any, of our clients.  We generally advocate inventor's rights and interests, but also believe that a sound patent system must fairly permit industrialization and commerce with some degree of certainty as to the risks, and with a fair scope of public domain.
