Steven M. Hoffberg is partner of Ostrolenk Faber, LLP, New York, NY, as well as principal of the intellectual property law firm of Hoffberg & Associates, which is winding down its affairs.  Mr. Hoffberg is a member of the Bars of New York and Connecticut, registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to practice before both federal and state courts.  Mr. Hoffberg is an active member of the Licensing Executive's Society and a frequent speaker at its conferences.

Mr. Hoffberg attended the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York, NY, graduating with a J.D. Magna cum Laude, where he was a member of the Law Review.  Mr. Hoffberg holds an M.S.E.E. from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, specializing in Automated Control Systems (Dr. Miachael Danchak, thesis advisor, Electrical Engineering, thesis topic: “Computerized Hazardous Gas Monitoring System); an S.M. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Human Nutrition and Metabolism (Dr. Robert Langer, thesis advisor, Biochemical Engineering, thesis topic: "Immobilized Heparinase Blood Filter", Dr. Robert Linhardt, Post Doc mentor), an S.B. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Applied Biology (Dr. Richard J. Wurtman and Dr. John Fernstrom, advisors, Laboratory of Neural and Endocrine Regulation, thesis topic: "System for Monitoring Rat Food Consumption").  Mr. Hoffberg also spent three years in the University of Connecticut Medical School, Farmington, CT, M.D. Program (Special Project: “Functional Electrical Stimulation of Quadraplegics Employing Electromyographic Control Input”).

Mr. Hoffberg specializes in Patent and Trademark, Computer law, Technology Transfer and Licensing, Internet and other technological issues, for both large and small entities.  Mr. Hoffberg assists clients in many aspects of startup businesses, including employment agreements, consulting agreements, licenses and technology transfer, corporate structuring, technology development and outsourcing, and marketing.  Mr. Hoffberg also works with mature companies to develop and implement intellectual property strategies.  Where necessary, Mr. Hoffberg represents clients in Federal and State courts, and United States Patent and Trademark Office tribunals. Mr. Hoffberg has counseled clients in all phases of strategic planning of technologies and protection of intellectual property, including prosecution, licensing, enforcement, and litigation.  In the course of his work, he has resolved a number of significant intellectual property disputes involving patent, trademark, copyright, domain name dispute, antitrust and general commercial litigation issues.  Mr. Hoffberg's present practice emphasizes obtaining comprehensive protection for valuable technologies, settlement of disputes, and internal development and licensing of technologies.

Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked in engineering and engineering management, and gained experience in both practical engineering and business.

As a result of his varied experiences, Mr. Hoffberg has technical expertise in a wide variety of areas, including Internet, networks and communications, computing hardware and software, analog, digital and optical semiconductor devices and circuits, control systems, sensors, data acquisition systems, digital signal processing, ad hoc network theory, probability theory, image and signal processing and pattern recognition, game theory and auctions, telematics, multimedia systems, consumer electronics, mechanical, electromechanical and microelectromechanical devices, refrigeration technologies, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, antioxidants, virology, biomedical and surgical devices.

Mr. Hoffberg is named inventor on a number of patents in the fields of telematics, wireless ad hoc networking, image and audio signal processing, human computer user interface design, multimedia devices, user preference profile based systems, cryotherapy, and  refrigeration.
